The Meritage Quartet is pleased to announce they have been invited to participate in the Centrum Music Festival in Port Townsend, Washington, this summer. The quartet will spend a week at the festival working with the Tokyo String Quartet, as well as the violist Helen Callus and cellist Desmond Hoebig. The Meritage gained a tremendous amount from their experiences last summer at the Deer Valley Music Festival working with the Muir Quartet, and hope to continue that level of advancement this summer at Centrum.
The Meritage String Quartet’s third season debut includes three exciting works from the Classical, Romantic, and Beyond. The first piece is Haydn’s late masterwork, the “Sunrise” string quartet. Second, the Meritage will present a work written for them this summer at the Deer Valley String Quartet Festival by composer Joan Panetti. A single movement work, the composer drew her inspiration from a poem and the notion of constantly turning wheels. The Quartet worked extensively with the composer on revisions to the work, and the Billings performance will mark the Montana debut. Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence is a chamber music extravaganza, with rich sonorities and plenty of virtuosity. This sextet features exciting guests Rebecca Hartka, MSU’s new cello professor, and Billings violinist Megan Kenny.
